Nothing is Black and White
John says in the last chapter and verse of the Gospel of John, “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.”
This reinforces the truth that all the questions we have can be answered in Jesus. You notice He didn’t write down the answers to all the issues we encounter but we know enough about Him to find the answers if we but ask.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a black and white answer in the Bible regarding the immigration issue of today. What we do know is that we are to follow the laws of the land, show compassion to the poor, love and pray for our enemies.
It would be so much easier if there was an instruction that told us exactly what to do but instead, we must ask for wisdom and also look at the character of Jesus to help show us the way.
What About Immorality?
How about the immorality of the country as a whole? Individually we may not be committing immoral acts but we are swept along with a minority of others who are. Again, Jesus didn’t give us every scenario of immorality that we see today. Thank God for that! He did show us though how quick we are to judge others’ sins and not our own.
He also showed us that He doesn’t ignore sin but He does forgive it even without us asking for forgiveness. Don’t you imagine the adulteress women found that mind-blowing? No condemnation but forgiveness! Rampant hatred is another issue that consumes our media today and infiltrates our homes. The Romans hated the Jews, the Jews hated the Romans, the Pharisees hated the Sadducees and on and on it goes.
Hate Runs Rampant
Today, Liberals hate Conservatives and vice versa. It’s completely out of control. What are we to do about it? Paul had a knack for being able to talk to a wide range of people, and he put it this way: “I have become all things to all people that I may, by all means, save some.” Imagine how much could be accomplished if every believer lived like that today! Let’s not forget that we are here to carry out Jesus’s command to seek and to save the lost.
So even though the world wouldn’t be able to contain the books that would be written of all Jesus did, even though the Bible doesn’t contain black and white answers for every issue, what we do have is more than enough. Jesus made sure that He showed us the most important answer to all the questions—that answer is love. It covers over a multitude of sin, it forgives, it puts other’s first, and most importantly it lays down its life for others. What other answer do we need?
