Then the LORD will go out to fight against those nations, as he has fought in times past Zechariah 14:3 (New Living Translation)
It’s amazing how many references there are in the Bible about the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the Lord of Hosts, the Angel of the Lord, and so forth. Throughout the Old Testament, we are shown again and again that the Lord is with us and fighting our battles for us.
In Zechariah, we read that the Lord has fought in times past and is now going to fight in the future for the nation of Israel. Repeatedly during David’s reign, the Lord was with him and kept him safe from his enemies, even in the most hopeless of situations.
Who is Against Us?
The New Testament shows us the same scenario, but using different verbiage. If God is for us, who can be against us? We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. Put on the full armor of God and stand. Paul tells us that everyone deserted him, but the Lord stood by him and delivered him from death. We can rest assured that the God of the Old Testament is the same as the God in the New Testament. He does not change.
Our God makes it clear that He watches over His children. He is intimately involved in our lives, yet never the micromanager. He gives us the strength and the tools with which to fight the battles in life, and He never leaves our side for a moment.
When He needs to intervene, He does so—in His timing—but He wants us to trust Him enough to step out on our own, even when we are afraid.
God is great; He is wonderful! He is and always will be fighting for us and giving us success. He demands nothing from us in return. But if we love Him as we should, we will give our all to Him as He has already done for us.
The battle belongs to the Lord. Always. And so do we!
