“Deep calls to deep at the sound of Thy waterfalls; All Thy breakers and Thy waves have rolled over me.” Psalm 42:7 (NASB)
God is Always Good
Our loving Father is so good. He knows us better even than we know ourselves. Many times He gives us exactly what we need before we ask. And sometimes—when we least expect it—He surprises us with the gift of worship.
This is perhaps the most precious gift of all. Most believers think of worship only as something that is given to God—it’s praise and glory from those who love Him to the One who most deserves them.
Worship Can Happen Anywhere
Yet sometimes God gives us the experience of worship because He knows how desperately we need it. This may happen during a church service, and hopefully does, but it also occurs at otherwise ordinary moments during the routine of our everyday lives.
We feel God’s overwhelming presence in many and varied ways. Perhaps it’s when a loved one goes home to be with the Father, or maybe when one of our children is baptized.
Sometimes it’s a special moment in nature. The magnificence of the ocean and its winds help us to understand what is meant by the Biblical phrase “deep calls to deep” in Psalm 42 above. Written in a moment of darkest despair, the psalmist experiences the witness of God’s overwhelming power in nature and his heart is lightened as he gives praises to the Creator of all.
It Only Takes One Word
To you and me today, just one word spoken to our hearts by God will create a moment of worship that He knows we need to experience at a specific time in our lives.
We can always count on the generosity of our God. He could have chosen simply to receive our praises, but instead, He chose to involve us in worship for our benefit as well. He knows when we need it most and He gives it just at the right time. He is a good, good Father.
