No matter the obstacle, prayer is the answer. There is no situation, no illness, no disaster, and no task too large or too small for God to handle. We know that God loves us and wants the very best for us. Why, then, are we sometimes so reluctant to take our concerns to Him in prayer?
Could it be the fact that prayer requires humility…our abandoning self and surrendering wholly to the One who reigns over all creation…and knowing this, we stubbornly cling to the misconception that we can handle it all by ourselves? Is it perhaps pride then that stands between us and answered prayer?
Hopeless situations become hopeful, burdens are lightened, suffering is alleviated…there is no limit to what God can and will do when His people commit themselves to prayer! Whether it’s a need of an individual, a community, a nation, or a world, we must be diligent in turning our eyes heavenly in search of the solution. We must acknowledge His right to rule over us. We must not force our agenda, or try to manipulate God in any way. We must trust Him, no matter the outcome!
God can do anything. His power is without limit. As Abraham trusted God to provide the lamb for the sacrifice…as Hannah waited for God’s perfect timing… as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to worship the idol but averred, “The God we serve is able to save us… But even if he does not… “—in that same manner, with the same courage of these heroes of old, we must trust our Lord to do as He sees fit.
Scripture tells us, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (Jms 5:16b NKJV) The New Living Translation puts it this way: “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.”
Considering the potential then, can we do anything less that pray earnestly and fervently for our community, our church and our nation? It is our moral, civic and spiritual duty.
God wants to bless you. Are you missing out today because you are still trying to go it alone?
