Who You Gonna Call?

Nov 21, 2017 | Sovereignty of God

Most of us wait until we are completely exhausted and out of options before we cry out to Jesus for help.

We know what the Bible says, we preach it to others and believe it completely, but we still have a hard time turning loose and laying our problems at God’s feet. It’s human nature: we want to figure things out for ourselves.

The truth is, we can figure out some things and sometimes God lets us in on His plans. But like Adam and Eve, that’s not enough: we want to be all-knowing just like Him. Good thing for us, though, that God limits our information because we probably couldn’t handle knowing it all. Still, we waste countless hours thinking about what might happen and what we can do to change the outcome to suit our desires.

The Word tells us that before the foundation of the world God had a plan for each and every person that would ever exist. He is constantly giving us choices, opening and closing doors and silently guiding us to the completion of that plan. We also know that there will be times when we feel abandoned by Him because we don’t understand what is happening to us. This is when our minds start to wonder and roam about looking for answers and reasons…trying to figure it all out.

When we finally come to our wit’s end we do the instinctive thing God has built into us. We cry out to Him in desperation. We acknowledge that His ways and thoughts are high above us and only He knows the whys and the end results.

If we knew everything why would we ever turn to God for help? How would we ever learn to trust Him or grow in our faith? He designed us to have curious minds and He lets them wonder freely but He also made a way out when we can’t find the answers.

He lets us run to Him at any time and with arms wide open He calms our active minds until we know to be still because He is God!
