The Greatest Teachings

Upon hearing a teaching from the Bible, an unbeliever remarked somewhat incredulously:  “Those are good words to live by!”  She had not yet come to know Jesus as her Savior, but she recognized the truth in His teachings.

Indian lawyer Mahatma Gandhi once said of Jesus Christ that He was the greatest teacher that ever lived. A Hindu, Gandhi did not accept Jesus as his Lord or Savior but recognized His teachings as the greatest ever. Here are just a few of Scripture’s rather spectacular thoughts.  These are indeed good words to live by:

  • Love your neighbors as yourself,  (Mk 12:31)
  • Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility, consider others better than yourself. (Phil 2:3)
  • I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.  (Phil 4:13)
  • For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast  (Eph 2:8-9)
  • The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…   (Ps 23)
  • Let us not love with words or tongue, but with action and in truth.  (1 John 3:18)
  • Perfect love [God’s love] drives out fear…  (1 John 4:18a)
