God Is Generous
Have you ever felt you were not doing enough to give back to God even a smidgen of what He has given you? God is so generous with His love, His time, His provision that we can never do nearly enough to repay Him for all that He has already done for us! But though we far short, He keeps right on giving.
So amazing is God’s unconditional love!
I must confess I am sometimes guilty of thinking thoughts like these.
I know that God’s grace is free, that there is nothing I can do to earn it. The fact is, His love and His gifts have no strings attached. And that means repayment is neither necessary or required.
Knowing this about God does not preclude my wanting to do more for Him. At times, I may even feel guilty about it. Maybe you do too.
All God Wants From Us Is…
But here’s the truth. God loves us unconditionally, our salvation is secure, and all He wants from us is our obedience and love.
Sound like the perfect relationship? But this certainty does not mean that once saved, we are
free to continue the life-style we experienced while we were yet sinners. In Ephesians 2:10, God reminds us that we were “created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in
advance for us to do.”
And Jesus tells us in another reference, “If you love me, you will obey what I command.” (John 14:15) Think about it: What are His commands? Love your neighbor as yourself, love the Lord your God with all your heart, take care of the widows and orphans, and the like.
We Are Not Compelled to Follow
The Bible tells us what to do. The point here is not that we are compelled to follow the rules in the Bible. No. Instead, it’s that we will follow the life choices God has outlined for us, not because we have to but because we want to. And that is how we show our gratitude for all the blessings He has given us.
We will obey. Back to the guilt I feel about not doing enough. That’s wrong of me. It’s not about how much I do for God that counts; it’s about the condition of my heart as I do His work
