When the world is turning upside down, it is helpful to create a little sanity of your own—a quiet, isolated area where you can escape to be alone with the Lord. Your special spot may be outdoors or in, or both, just as long as it is private, quiet and free of distractions.
The backyard, away from street traffic, makes a good start. Maybe in a corner of the yard, backed up to the fencing. Select a place with shade from a tree, surround it with lush vegetation, and add the things you love from outdoors—a bubbling fountain (or bubbler), an iron bench, a small chimenea (burning pinion of course), flowering shrubs, ferns and hostas.
Don’t be stingy with the plants—the more the merrier. Just be sure you are able to isolate your little sanctuary from the eyes of neighbors, and even your own house. If you are unable to escape the neighborhood sounds, consider investing in a pair of noise-canceling headphones. They can do wonders to make yours a place of peace and tranquility.
