We are all devastated by what we see happening in Ukraine. We ask ourselves if we can merely stand by and see that country being overthrown by Russia’s Vladimir Putin. We feel helpless and the situation looks hopeless. As believers, we want to do what we can to help our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering and fighting for the cause.
The most powerful tool we have at hand is our relationship with God. We can give to organizations that extend aid in one way or another, but nothing is more effective than prayer. God’s word is filled with promises. If we truly believe that God keeps the promises He makes, we need to pray them back to Him. Here are some of God’s promises from Psalm 33:
“For the Word of the Lord holds true and we can trust everything He does. He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.” (vv. 4, 5).
“The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts their schemes. But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever, His intentions can never be shaken.” (vv. 10, 11).
“The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory—for all its strength, it cannot save you. But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on His unfailing love.” (vv. 16-18).
“Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.” (v. 22).
The above verses are just a sampling of the promises that are available to us in the scriptures. As you read these, can you feel the assurance of security God offers to those who love Him? If His word is true—and it is—we can always trust Him. He thwarts the schemes of those who plot to overthrow nations and protects those who fear Him. Armies cannot defeat those who stand smack-dab in the middle of God’s love for them.
