Let Your Light Shine Bright!

True to Solomon’s teaching in the book of Ecclesiastes that there is nothing new under the sun, every generation believes that it is living in the worst time ever. EVER! People are doing only what they want to do, no one cares about hearing the Good News, witnessing to the lost has become virtually impossible. But the Word of God does and always has enlightened us on how to witness no matter the generation we might live in.

For example, Jesus tells us not to hide our light under a basket but to let it shine wherever we go. The Bible tells us that the way to show our love for God is to treat other people in the way Jesus would have done. It teaches us to bring God glory by turning the other cheek, by forgiving others and being tenderhearted to fellow believers, by giving to the poor and helping the destitute. We are to love our enemies and pray for them, and not to wish them harm.

Jesus said that if we love one another, it is proof to the world that He is who He says He is. There simply is no way we could love the unlovable unless we have Him living in us, enabling us to love as He does. Then when others see us acting differently from the world, they surely will wonder why. They will see with their own eyes that we have become new creations in Christ and that we want to obey His instructions no matter how difficult the task.

No different from earlier times, this is how we show Jesus to others today—not by Bible thumping or pointing out their sin in a self-pious and judgmental way. We try to live lives worthy of our calling in Christ; and consequently, we are seen as different from the rest of the world. We shine brightly like a light on a hill which pleases the One who gave His
life on a hill for us.

There is nothing new under the sun, but there is a choice as to how we live. There will always be sin and people rejecting the Truth. But as we live for Jesus, He will use our lives to draw others to salvation. So let your light shine bright. Live the life that bears witness to Christ’s living in you.
