The Easiest and Hardest Thing to Do

In the New Testament when people came to Jesus to be healed, He often said their sins were forgiven instead of telling them they were healed. When it happened this way, Jesus was speaking of spiritual healing as well as physical healing.

The people coming to Him did not seek forgiveness, because they did not recognize they were living in sin. The truth is, sin in our lives is one of the hardest things to admit to ourselves. We compare ourselves to others and conclude we are not half as bad as they are. So we think obviously we are okay.

What’s the problem with this kind of thinking?
The problem is that sin separates us from God. Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death, eventually physical death and more imminently, spiritual death.

Every human being has been there at some time in their life: i.e., they have found themselves separated from God because of sin. The extent of the sin is not relevant. All sin, big or small, leads to death. Without a way to be cleansed of sin, we are the walking dead and we cannot have a relationship with God.

People may say they believe in God, but believing is not the same as confessing to being a sinner and in need of salvation. Jesus very clearly tells us in John 14:6 that He is the way, the truth, and the life and that no one can come to the Father except through Him. Just believing in God will not give you eternal life. Only by confessing you are a sinner and acknowledging that Jesus the Son died for your sins—in your stead—will you be saved.

As hard as it is to admit you are a sinner, salvation is simple. John 1:12 says to all that believed and received He (Jesus) gave the right to become children of God, that is, to be saved. Believing that you are a sinner and that only Jesus can save you, then receiving the salvation Jesus offers, is all it takes.

It’s the Father’s will that all would come to repentance (II Peter 3:9b), so why would He make salvation a difficult thing to bring about?

If you have never done it, or if you are simply unsure of your salvation, you can remedy that right now. All you need to do is admit that you have sinned and need Jesus to save you.

Once you receive His salvation, you will want to walk in obedience to the Word. You will be assured you have eternal life. What could be easier than that?
