God’s Plan for the Nations

Psalm 87 (New Living Translation quoted above) is a short Psalm that outlines God’s plan for the nations. It speaks of the city founded by the Lord. We know this city to be Zion (Jerusalem). God absolutely loves the city of Jerusalem and says so many times throughout the scriptures.

We know Jerusalem is the highest city for the children of Israel as well. All of the Old Testament evolves around Jerusalem, and we find in the last book of the Bible (Revelation), that Jerusalem is still the most honored city of God.

Psalm 87 talks about how someday God will count certain nations as citizens of Jerusalem. Some believers may be seriously surprised with those that God lists. Egypt and Babylon will be among those who know Him. Philistia, Tyre, and even distant Ethiopia will all become citizens of new Jerusalem.

Regarding Jerusalem it will be said, “Everyone enjoys the rights of citizenship there.”

It goes on to say that the “Most High will personally bless this city and when the Lord registers the nations He will say, they have all become citizens of Jerusalem.”

In Revelation 21:2, the apostle John writes, “And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” Praise God that before the foundation of the world He knew the nations would become a part of the citizenship of Jerusalem, and we are included in that plan if we know Jesus as Lord and Savior.
